General Description
Optical tables are used for experimental characterisation of quantum devices.
Currently, the experiments regard (i) optical characterisation of MEMS-type cells containing atom vapours (Cs and Rb atoms in different atmosphere), (ii) automatic set-up of activation and characterisation of cells containing Rubidium vapour, (iii) optical characterization and optical clock setup of solid crystals doped with lanthanide atoms (i.e. Er:LiYF4) in the optical criostat AttoCube.
Depending on the nature of the experiment, the optical measurement setup can be designed to meet specific requirements, once it has been assembled on a breadboard.
The strengths of this laboratory are:
- the ability to perform intermediate optical characterization of quantum devices during the fabrication process;
- the possibility of using an optical cryostat and stable power lasers, directly linked to the national time and frequency standard (https://www.inrim.it/en/research/scientific-sectors/time-and-frequency/activities/frequency-standards)
